BERHAMPUR: With a wish to get some financial help, a poor family of the city has written to the President seeking permission for mercy death. Dibakar Panda, the only earning member of the family living at Manjari Nagar area of the city, is now in a state of coma. He was a menial labourer looking after his wife Jayanti Panda, two daughters and a son with his meagre income. Dibakar is suspected to have gone through a cerebral stroke while working 15 days ago. It made him comatose. After exhausting their small savings at the hospital, Jayanti preferred to get back her husband to her home out of compulsion. She says she has also lost scope to earn something by working as domestic help as she has to look after her husband. Her daughter, Urmila Panda, has decided to drop out of school due to financial compulsions of the family. Jayanti says she has approached local MLA R.C.C. Patnaik and administrative officials about her plight. The MLA has recommended her application for some financial help from the Chief Minister's relief fund. According to Jayanti, no help has reached her from the government till date.
