Jayalalithaa concerned at Karnataka move
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa has expressed anguish over the proposed move by the Karnataka Government to construct a check dam across the Cauvery above Hoggenakkal.
In a statement here on Wednesday, she said the dam would curtail flow of rainwater into the Mettur reservoir. The move had instilled fear among delta farmers.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said as the DMK was part of the Central Government, it should use its clout to prevent Karnataka from going ahead with the project. If the Centre failed to take action, the State should approach the Supreme Court to obtain a stay against the construction.
