Award for District Forest Officer

District Forest Officer, Tiruvallur, S. Kalyanasundaram has been selected for the Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra award in the category of Government Servant (individual).
The award carries a citation and a scroll besides a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The award was given to him for his contribution towards converting 1000 ha of wasteland into a tree cover with the active participation of local people, implementing various poverty alleviation programmes in three villages besides creating income generation activities for forest dependents.
The works were implemented under the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project while he served as Divisional Forest Officer (Social Forestry), Chengalpattu. The award would be given to him at a function in New Delhi next month, the release added.
