HYDERABAD: Leakage of cooking gas led to an explosion causing extensive damage to a house at Sai Chitra Nagar in Uppal in the early hours of Wednesday. Fortunately, none of the inmates of the house was injured. The blast occurred inside the kitchen of a rented portion in which Navata Transport company's city manager K. Rammohan was living. The manager, his wife Neeraja, his mother-in-law Vijayalaxmi and son Abhijit were sleeping when the kitchen exploded with a huge sound around 5.30 a.m.

Walls of the kitchen and prayer room collapsed, while windowpanes and doors got shattered. The Uppal police, who visited the spot, said gas had leaked from the LPG cylinder and filled the entire kitchen. "Sparks from the fridge apparently ignited the gas resulting in a powerful explosion," Uppal Inspector Muthyam Reddy said.
