HYDERABAD: Ministers Mohd. Shabbir Ali and M. Mukesh Goud have lashed out at CPI(M)'s agitation to forcibly occupy land in the name of `Bhoo Poratam.' Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, they said the so-called struggle for house sites reflected the double standards of the party. Citing the example of Nandigram in West Bengal, they said the Left Front Government had ordered police firing on poor farmers whose lands were being taken away by the Government after branding them Maoists. In contrast, the Andhra Pradesh Government had evolved a number of programmes for the benefit of the poor. The CPI(M) stir appeared like a programme with an eye on votes.
Jana's remarks flayed
Meanwhile, CPI(M) secretary B.V. Raghavulu has condemned Home Minister K. Jana Reddy's statement that the party was behaving "undemocratically" in the name of forcible acquisition of lands for house sites. He recalled that the Home Minister along with Minister Koneru Ranga Rao gave a written assurance two years ago when he (Mr. Raghavulu) sat on an indefinite fast demanding house sites to poor. He took objection to comments equating the party with the Maoists and criticised the Government for not initiating action against those illegally in possession of vast stretches of Government lands.
