BANGALORE: Court proceedings are generally said to be too dull and too academic to be of any interest to a layman and except for the advocates and the parties there are very few others attending the court proceedings.

However, some of the cases that have come up before the Karnataka High Court have drawn a large number of people.

The hearings relating to the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway have drawn a large number of people as has been the case relating to acquisition of agricultural lands for industries by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). In the last few weeks, the lottery case and the building violations in Sadashivanagar and the Pejawar seer case attracted a large number of people.

The lottery case on Tuesday witnessed a large number of people — most of them lottery agents and sellers — thronging the court hall of Justice V. Jagannathan. There was no place to sit for a majority of the people during the three and half hours of dictation that the Judge gave on the case.

Though there are sign boards all over the court halls and on the corridors of the High Court asking people to switch off their mobile telephones, they do not seem to have any effect as the mobiles constantly kept ringing one after the other during the dictation of the order.

The mobile users did not care whether the ringing sound disturbed the court proceedings or those interestedly watching the proceedings.
