DCP (Traffic) passes away

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Coimbatore City Police, M. Thiagarajan (58) passed away at a private hospital in the city in the small hours of Wednesday. Hospital sources said the death was due to cardiac arrest. He was in the hospital for two days for diabetes and blood pressure. He is survived by wife and two sons. Top police officers including City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan paid last respects. The body was taken to Nagapattinam for cremation.

Showroom burgled

Miscreants broke into a consumer durable showroom on Dr. Nanjappa Road near Gandhipuram Central Bus stand on Tuesday night and decamped with hundreds of cellular phone handsets and watches worth a few lakhs. Burglary came to notice when the shop was opened this morning. Kattoor police visited the scene of crime.

Detained under Goondas Act

Commissioner of Police C.K. Gandhirajan on Tuesday ordered the detention of two persons under Goondas Act. The police said T. Madanagopal of Musiri in Tiruchi District and C.R. Shankar of Seeraniackenpalayam were arrested on charges of waylaying and robbing Anandakumar of three sovereign gold chain on April 4 at 80- feet road in Ramanathapuram. Investigations revealed that the duo were involved in various cases of robbery, chain snatching and house breaking that were reported in Big Bazaar, R.S. Puram, Ramanathapuram, Variety Hall Road and Sai Baba Colony police limits. Nearly 57 sovereigns of jewellery were recovered from them.

Workshop

Bharathiar University Red Ribbon Club and Dr. G.R. Damodaran College of Science will organise a workshop on `Innovative RRC Show' on May 11 at the GRD College. All Red Ribbon Club members from the affiliated colleges of the university will participate.

Gita session

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness will organise Gita Interactive Session from May 17 to 23 at Damodar Centre. According to a release,
