Campaign to promote khadi launched

KOCHI: The Government's campaign to promote handloom and khadi garments was officially inaugurated in the district by S. Sarma, Minister for Fisheries, here on Wednesday.

The Government wanted to create a market for khadi and village industries with the help of the people, he said.

K.V. Thomas, MLA, who presided over the function, said the Government should promote a brand in handloom for which funds were earmarked.P.S. Shyla, district panchayat president; K.D. Venugopal, Director Hanveev; Sebastian Pothenpally, Manager, District Industries Centre; P.H.M. Ismail, NGO Union State vice-president; T.K. Suresh Kumar, NGO Association district vice-president; P.S. Peethambaran, BSNL Employees Union district secretary; D.M. Devarajan, State Secretariat member, Kerala Municipal Corporation Staff Union, and N. Shaji, district president, AKGCT, spoke on the occasion. Earlier, K.M. Chanrasekharan, Hantex Managing Director, welcomed the gathering. Moolamkushi Bhaskaran, Khadi Board member, proposed a vote of thanks.
