NEW DELHI: Public sector carrier Indian has decided to permit its not-so-young cabin crew to seek voluntary retirement or opt for ground duties. Crew members over the age of 41 will have the option of leaving the airline, with a compensation package ranging between Rs. 13 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh depending on their age. This will be in addition to their existing post retirement benefits.
Option
Further, crew below the age of 50 can opt for ground duties at the discretion of the company. Such crew will receive the an additional month compensatory allowance, ranging between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 50,000 a month. The voluntary rehabilitation/rejuvenation scheme, approved by Indian's board here on Wednesday, is expected to help improve the passenger perception of the airline in keeping with the demands of a competitive market and its efforts to upgrade its service.
Employee-friendly
The airline said the scheme was employee-friendly; it would enable those who wish to stop performing flying duties to get an attractive compensation package or alternative employment on the ground or both.
