Puducherry: N. Anandhu, MLA (Puducherry Munnetra Congress), has announced that he will distribute 1 kg of sugar to each of the 2,100 families at a function here on Friday to mark his completion of 1 year as a legislator of the Union Territory Assembly. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the sugar would be distributed at a Kalyana Mandapam in Bussy constituency from where he was elected to the Assembly.
Annadhanam scheme
Mr. Anandhu said he would also launch a free `annadhanam' scheme at Siddhi Vinayakar temple in the constituency. The food would be distributed every Friday to the poor. He said he was thankful to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy for sanctioning funds to implement various schemes to develop infrastructure and also amenities in Bussy, although he belonged to an opposition party. He said he had spent around Rs. 90 lakh from out of the Rs. 1 crore available under the MLA Area Development scheme. Construction of culverts and conversion of tar roads into concrete roads and also other infrastructure facilities were some of the works. Mr. Anandhu expressed concern over the increase in the number of bars and liquor sales outlets in Bussy constituency. Residents in some of the localities where the bars were situated were facing disturbance. He appealed to Chief Minister to bring down the shops.
Dog menace
Mr. Anandhu said that there were no effective steps to curb the menace caused by stray dogs. He said pedestrians and schoolchildren were facing a threat to their lives. Cases of dog bites including rabid dogs were on the increase in Bussy constituency.
