Avoidable survey?

The attack on the Dinakaran office is condemnable. But it was unnecessary to conduct a survey on the possible successor to someone who is alive. Such surveys serve no purpose apart from sensationalising issues and improving sales.

Such surveys invariably mislead the people. Surveys are welcome only when they are conducted on issues that are relevant, not when they involve political trivia.

What was the need for a survey on a political successor to the Chief Minister when dynastic politics deserves to be discouraged? The media should refrain from provoking politicians with issues that can flare up uncontrollably. Why not focus on issues that benefit the common man?

The attack is reprehensible and no stone should be left unturned to punish the culprits. But these days the media go overboard to sensationalise non-issues.

Elections, not opinion polls, decide who the next leader is. Dinakaran should have behaved more responsibly. It was the publication of the survey that led to the loss of three innocent lives.
