Staff Reporter

They will also be encouraged to take up cultivation of rain-fed vegetable crops

ANANTAPUR: The State Government will supply 5.5 lakh quintals of seed groundnut to farmers in the district on subsidy for the coming kharif season, district Collector D. Kadmiel said on Thursday. The supply would commence in the second fortnight of June.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the Government had already allotted 4.2 lakh quintals of seed groundnut and the remaining quantity would be allotted as and when required. Joint Director of Agriculture P. Pothaiah said that groundnut would be cultivated in 7.64 lakh hectares normally and 7 lakh quintals of seed groundnut would be required for the extent.

The remaining demand would be overcome with the seed available with the farmers and crop diversification.

Each farmer would be given a maximum of 90 kg of seed groundnut.
