CPI (M) aims at making Shimla a BPO hub

Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA: "Once the richest municipal society in the country, the Shimla Municipal Corporation, which had lent a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh to the then Bombay Municipal Corporation, has now become a total bankrupt local body, mainly due to the anti-people policies of the Congress and the BJP," it was stated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) here on Thursday.

Presenting its perspective for the hill Capital, Professor M.K. Sharma, chairman of the steering committee for the CPI (M) manifesto, said the party was concentrating on lesser seats.

He said civic amenities need immediate upgrading and expansion if the hill Capital is to be made a tourist and IT (information technology) destination. "The town can be targeted for making a BPO hub in the North," he added.
