THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The concept of planning is gravely threatened by market-driven development, Vice-chairman of the Planning Board Prabhat Patnaik has said. Inaugurating the valedictory function of the three-day Kerala Environment Congress organised by the Centre for Environment and Development at the Co-Bank Towers auditorium on Thursday, Prof. Patnaik said the market-driven development determined many things in the State and it could be fought. He said the whole range of resources, including water, was becoming private property. Water is now available in pet bottles and not many would have thought about it 10 years ago. Resources were becoming scarce and the people were increasingly excluded from natural resources.
