Coimbatore: Minister for Rural Industries Pongalur N. Palanisamy recently distributed free gas stoves with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders to 1,005 beneficiaries at three different functions held in Coimbatore. Highlighting the scheme, Mr. Palanisamy said that the scheme was aimed at liberating women from the firewood kitchens. Of the total of 15,323 beneficiaries, 11,473 persons had already been provided with hot plates and LPG connections. Of the remaining, Mr. Palniasamy said, 1,005 beneficiaries were being provided with the stoves. District Collector Neeraj Mittal said Coimbatore district enjoyed a special status in the State in terms of industrial and economic development. It was producing goods worth Rs. 30,000 crore and was exporting goods worth Rs. 18,000 crore. Hence, the district was getting special attention in various schemes of the Government and exhorted the people to make optimum and judicious use of these various schemes.
