Action against JNU students

NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration has taken action against seven students who indulged in caste abuse and violence against a Dalit student last year. One student has been rusticated for four semesters, while the names of two others have been removed from the rolls and they have been barred from taking admission for two years. A fine of Rs. 5,000 has been imposed on four others.

The JNU Students' Union claimed it was due to the pressure exerted by it and its subsequent interaction with various authorities that a three-member committee was formed to investigate the matter.

JNU mails admit cards to candidates

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University has mailed admit cards to all candidates appearing in the University and Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination scheduled to be held on May 15, 16, 17 and 18 at various centres across the country.

Candidates who have so far not received the admit card can download it from www.jnu.ac.in or www.admissions.jnu.ac.in, said a JNU release here.

Training programme for MCD teachers

NEW DELHI: A month-long training programme will be organised for Municipal Corporation of Delhi primary schools teachers by the Delhi State Council of Educational Research and Training during the summer vacation.

Organised under the aegis of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the programme is aimed at making the process of teaching and learning result-oriented and a pleasurable experience. The teachers will be imparted training in advanced techniques and methods of teaching.

"Delhi to be made zero-garbage city"

NEW DELHI: Mayor Arti Mehra on Thursday said Delhi would be made a zero-garbage city soon. She was on a visit to Civil Lines Zone to take stock of sanitation and de-silting work.

Ms. Mehra visited Kamla Nagar, Clock Tower, Rana Pratap Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Bhalaswa and Jagatpur and ordered removal of garbage and silt dumped on open plots.

Load shedding in Nangloi

New Delhi: Barring minor load shedding in Nangloi, the power situation in the Capital remained normal on Thursday. The peak demand was 3,348 MW with a maximum shedding of 38 MW, an official spokesman said. Rotational shedding was also resorted to in some areas in the evening.
