Judge hearing Sabharwal case transferred

Ujjain: In a decision viewed as another setback for the prosecution, the judge hearing the case related to the murder of college teacher H. S. Sabharwal last year was on Thursday transferred from here to Jabalpur.

While hearing the case, Sessions Judge Anil Kumar Sharma had examined a number of key witnesses presented by the State CID who had turned hostile and retracted their earlier statements about the manhandling of Sabharwal after student polls in Madhav College were cancelled on August 26 last year.

Court sources said Mr. Sharma's transfer as Registrar Judicial at the Jabalpur High Court was a routine matter and nobody has been posted so far in his place at Ujjain. The CID arrested six ABVP workers for allegedly assaulting professor last year. Mr. Sharma was to hear a contempt of court petition against the professor's son Himanshu on Thursday.

However, Himanshu claimed he had not received any notice in this regard so far.
