TIRUPATI: Andhra Pradesh appears not to have taken any serious note of the objections being raised by Tamil Nadu Government over the construction of a dam across Palar river at Ganeshpuram in the Kuppam mandal located at the confluence of the Andhra Pradesh-Tamilnadu and the Karnataka about 185 kms from here.
`No violation'
Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday dropped enough hints to this effect. He asserted at a press conference here that there was no question of the State going back on the project since it did not think that Andhra Pradesh has violated any inter-State river water agreement. "We have told this in clear terms to the Tamil Nadu Ministers when they had visited Hyderabad in this connection at our invitation," he said. Andhra Pradesh has also furnished to the team all technical details about the project.
Transparent
"We are very transparent in our approach," he claimed. The Minister said that the State also put it across to Tamilnadu `in clear terms' that the construction of the dam at Ganeshpuram was mandatory to tackle the acute water scarcity in the area.
