Legal notice to Sun TV

CHENNAI: M. K. Azhagiri, elder son of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, on Thursday issued a legal notice to the Sun TV, calling upon the network to "desist from telecasting defamatory statements" against him.

The notice, issued by advocate K. Muthuramalingam on Thursday, said: "In your channel you are broadcasting a news item about my client in a defamatory and derogatory manner. Further, in the news you are making false, frivolous and baseless allegations against my client, which are purely defamatory and derogatory."

The notice said Mr. Azhagiri was never implicated in Leelavathy murder case and the Madurai Dinamalar office attack case. As for the Murugan Idly Shop case, the Madras High Court had dismissed the petition filed against him.

"False propaganda"

"While this being so, you are making false propaganda against my client by suppressing the above said material facts... You are making the false propaganda against my client in order to tarnish his image in the public," the notice said.

"Baseless allegations"

The television network was making the "false and baseless allegations wantonly," the notice said, adding that Mr. Azhagiri would be constrained to initiate civil and criminal proceedings against the network if it did not desist from telecasting defamatory statements.

"You will be held liable for all cost and consequences," the notice warned.
