Fisheries training institute at Machilipatnam planned

Slew of measures for welfare of fishermen, says Minister


  • Community halls to be built in all fishermen villages
  • Engine oil supply at subsidised price promised

    MACHILIPATNAM: Minister for Animal Husbandry Mandali Buddha Prasad on Thursday said that plans were afoot to set up a fisheries training institute and a testing laboratory for aqua culture here.

    Addressing a meeting organised by owners of mechanised boats at the harbour here during his visit, Mr. Buddha Prasad said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had announced a special package worth Rs. 75 crores for taking up various welfare activities for fishermen across the State. Community halls would be constructed in all fishermen villages by spending Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs.15 lakhs on each hall. Life jackets would also be distributed to fishermen.

    Port construction

    Referring to the construction of port at Machilipatnam, Mr. Prasad said that the long-pending Bandar port project would be a reality soon.

    The project would help overall development of the town and the district as well, he maintained.

    Commissioner of Fisheries N. Narasimha Rao assured owners of mechanised boats of supplying engine oil at a subsidised price.

    Local MLA Perni Venkatramayya (Nani) presided over the meeting.

    Krishna district Collector Navin Mittal, MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, Municipal Chairman Sk. Silar Dada and others were present.
