Centre urged to release Rs. 500 cr. for water projects

Survey of water problem in eight districts conducted


  • Centre has already released funds to Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra
  • It has been accused of showing step motherly towards Karnataka



    Minister Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna handing over Rs. 25,000 to Khairunnissa whose son Abdul Razzak, 28, was killed by a wild elephant in Chikkanahalli village in Belur taluk on May 12, 2006. Former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda is se en.

    HASSAN: Minister for Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna who is also Hassan district in-charge Minister said the State has sent a memorandum to the Centre to release Rs. 500 crore towards water scarcity projects.

    The Centre has already released funds to Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra in this regard. He was addressing presspersons in Hassan on Thursday.

    Mr. Revanna said owing to lack of funds from the Centre, the State spent Rs. 31 crore for drinking water supply and another Rs. 140 crore towards other relief projects. He appealed to the opposition not to politicise the issue and urge the Centre to release funds for relief projects for Karnataka.

    He agreed that the Centre was showing step motherly towards Karnataka.

    Mr. Revanna said Additional Chief Secretary had personally conducted a survey of the water problem in eight districts in Hassan, Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajnagar, Kolar, Bangalore Rural and two other districts. Based on the assessment, the State sent its memorandum with records requesting to release Rs. 500 crore.

    For treatment

    At the press conference, Mr. Revanna presented a purse of Rs. 25,000 to Khairunnissa for the treatment of her son Abdul Razzak, 28.

    A wild elephant in Chikkanahalli village in Belur taluk killed him on May 12, 2006. He has been bed ridden since then with both his legs and one arm inactive.

    Former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda and Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash were also present.
