BERHAMPUR: Government employees involved in drinking water supply took out a rally in the city on Thursday in support of their 10-point charter of demands. At the same time, women belonging to Brit Colony and its adjoining areas blocked the road near Lingaraj talkies for more than an hour, protesting against non-supply of drinking water to their areas. The Pipe Water Workers' Union of the State decided to strike work from May 25 to 28, seeking fulfilment of their demands. The members of the union from parts of South Orissa gathered in the city to build up public awareness regarding their demands. They also handed over a memorandum listing their demands to the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, southern division. Their demands included job security, filling of vacancies, better dress allowance and minimum wage of Rs. 100 to workers paid on daily basis. They were also opposing attempts to hand over drinking water supply management to urban and local bodies.
