KORAPUT: A Nepalese woman who was reportedly tortured, harassed, cheated and left to fend for herself finally landed at the Sub-divisional Hospital in Jeypore on Thursday along with her three-year-old daughter, thanks to Lalmohan Patnaik, secretary of the Bright Career Academy, a local NGO. Meena Thappa was allegedly deserted by an unknown person at Umuri village near Jeypore after giving birth to a girl child Tulasa Thappa. With none to take care of her, she and her baby used to take shelter at a roadside rest shed. Though people could not understand her language, they gave her food. She later became pregnant after allegedly being raped by some unknown persons on the road. She gave birth to a baby boy. The infant was reportedly taken away an unknown person with a promise to adopt the child. Two years passed since then and Meena is pregnant again. Noticing her plight, Mr. Patnaik admitted her in hospital. She would be shifted to a home for women managed by the NGO. Tulasa would be imparted education.
