Sashidhar's turn to take pot-shots

`Government functioning not good'

  • `Actions, deeds directly co-related to people's perception'
  • Keshava Rao gives clean chit to Government actions

HYDERABAD: Congress MLA M. Sashidhar Reddy has said that perception of people about functioning of the Government was far from "satisfactory" and could be a "serious setback" for the party's electoral prospects in 2009.

Congratulating the recently-inducted Ministers in identical letters, he said: "We have to remain fully conscious of this and all our actions and deeds must be directed to change this perception so that we can strengthen the hands of our leader Congress president Sonia Gandhi".

He pointed out that it was the Government's responsibility to ensure that all promises made to the people were fulfilled.

"What is being done by the Government cannot be merely seen in terms of money allocated or spent. We have to ensure that it has the desired impact. Backward regions, remote areas and marginalised sections of society have to be given special attention. Ultimately, the perception of people about the functioning of the Government will be extremely important".

"The present perception of the people, in general, I am afraid, is largely far from being satisfactory", he observed.

    Voices of dissent

Meanwhile, APCC president K. Keshava Rao has said that P. Janardhan Reddy and Mr. Sashidhar Reddy are the only two party legislators to raise their voice of dissent against the Government in the last three years.

Dr. Rao said here on Thursday that the party too was not taking the outbursts of Mr. Janardhan Reddy seriously.

Asked as to how the party could take action against leaders in Srikakulam and Nellore districts, he pointed out that the actions of some leaders before and after the Council elections provided ample evidence of their role.

He also denied the charge levelled by Narsapur MP Ch Harirama Jogaiah that only leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema were punished.
