HYDERABAD: Telangana districts fared well with five of them figuring in the top 10 of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results this year while West Godavari topped the list with 86.03 pass percentage. Hyderabad district was third from the bottom with 62.02 per cent. Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar and Warangal districts stood out along with West Godavari, East Godavari, Vizianagaram, Krishna and Guntur. Anantapur district figured at the bottom with 53.46 pass percentage. Minister for School Education Damodar Rajanarsimha, who released the results, said the overall pass percentage dipped to 71.65 from last year's 73.16. In 2005, the pass percentage was 73.28. The pass percentage in Andhra Pradesh Residential Schools was 96.95 per cent while it was 89.94 in Social Welfare Residential Schools. Zilla Parishad schools' pass percentage was 65.78 as against 58.56 in Government schools. This year, 6,64,107 candidates cleared the examination out of the 9,26,822 who appeared. There was not much of a difference in the pass percentage of boys and girls with the figures put at 71.54 and 71.80 respectively. Maximum number of students passed in first division, which was a positive sign, the Minister said.
100 per cent result
Mr. Rajanarsimha said schools that achieved 100 per cent results declined by 429 and only 1,118 schools secured total result this year. However, Government residential schools maintained their good show with 72 schools getting 100 per cent result. The number of 0 per cent result schools rose from 20 to 24 this year nine private schools, eight ZP schools and seven Government schools.
Supplementary exam
The supplementary examination would commence on June 4 and continue till June 16. The Minister said since the time available was limited, failed candidates should appear for the supplementary examination without waiting for recounting results. The last date for remittance of fee to the heads of schools is May 25. Unlike last year, marks memos would be given to candidates within 10 days to facilitate admission into the Intermediate courses. Candidates who desire to get their marks have to pay Rs. 150 per subject and apply within 21 days from May 14.
