Johri begins probe in Hyderabad

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Inspector General of Police Geetha Johri, who is conducting investigations into the encounter killings of Sohrabuddin and Kausarbi, on Thursday interrogated E. Radhakrishna, an IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, at the Central Reserve Police (CRP) group headquarters at Chandrayangutta here.

Mr. Radhakrishna, a Deputy Inspector General of the CRP, was alleged to have hosted IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian, arrested in connection with the fake encounter.

The encounter took place when Mr. Pandian was on a visit to Hyderabad, reportedly to study the bomb blast at the office of the Police Commissioner's Task Force. He was the Superintendent of Police of the Anti-Terrorist Squad of Gujarat police at that time. Ms. Johri called on Director-General of Police M.A. Basith at his office in the evening.

Her programme included meetings with senior officers of the city police as well, but Commissioner Balwinder Singh said she was yet to meet them.

Mediapersons were waiting since morning at the office of Sangeeta Travels in Siddiamber Bazar, expecting a visit by Ms. Johri. This was the travel agency where Sohrabuddin, Kausarbi and Tulasiram Prajapati booked tickets for Belgaum.

The media personnel kept shuttling between the offices of M.J. Travels and Sangeeta Travels. Sohrabuddin and the others had boarded a mini-bus of M.J. Travels at Nampally and travelled to Kukatpally, where they boarded a bus of Sangeeta Travels. This bus was allegedly intercepted, and Sohrabuddin and Kausarbi whisked away by the police personnel.
