200 huts gutted in two accidents

One happened near Puzhal prison

CHENNAI
: About 200 huts were gutted in two fire accidents including one near the Puzhal prisons in the city on Thursday.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel received a call at 10.30 a.m. from Suthanthira Nagar situated near the Royapuram Toll Gate bypass.
26 fire tenders
A total of 26 fire tenders, including 15 Metro Water tankers, were rushed to spot. The fire was put out at around 12.30 p.m.
There was no casualty and the loss was being assessed. The cause of the fire was not known immediately.
Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Services Madhurapandian, Divisional Fire Officers Meenakshi Vijaykumar and Vijaykumar supervised the operation. Tiruvottiyur police are investigating.
In the second accident, at around 1.30 p.m. fire broke out at Kaavangarai near Puzhal prisons.
Officials said that about 30 huts were destroyed. There was no casualty.
Further investigation is on.
