Exhibition focus on obesity risks

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM: A two-day exhibition to create awareness about the risks accompanying obesity was organised by Pasumai Thayagam.

Conducted at the S.C.S. Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Nehru Nagar, Chromepet, it sought to highlight the dimensions of the problem, especially among youth and children — a group that is seen to be chiefly tempted to consume substantial quantities of junk food.

Students' poor performance

The organisers said that with the increasing intake of unhealthy food, in addition to the health-related complications stemming from it, students had started faring poorly in academics.

The event was inaugurated on Saturday by Labour Welfare Minister T.M. Anbarasan. Chengalpattu MP A.K. Moorthy, Pallavaram Municipal Chairman E. Mani, and office-bearers of Pasumai Thayagam were present.

Residents of Chromepet and students from schools in the area visited the exhibition.
