BANGALORE: An armed gang on Wednesday midnight kidnapped a doctor from Hennur police station limits and released him in the early hours of Thursday after taking a ransom of Rs. 20,000 from his wife. The kidnappers assaulted Bindusara, injuring him on the forehead and robbed him of a gold chain, a ring, a mobile phone and Rs. 2,000 cash, the police said. Dr. Bindusara (40), who runs a clinic at Devarajevanhalli, was returning to his HBR Layout house around midnight. Six men, travelling by a car, hit Dr. Bindusara's motorcycle near the BDA complex in Hennur. After Dr. Bindusara fell, they assaulted him and dragged him into their car. On the instructions of his kidnappers, Dr. Bindusara called his wife Soujanya, also a doctor, from his mobile phone and told her that he had met with an accident. He asked her to immediately come near the BDA Complex with Rs. 1 lakh. Dr. Soujanya came near the BDA Complex and found that her husband was held captive in a car. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs. 1 lakh for his release. When Soujanya told them she had only Rs. 20,000, they took the money and sent her back saying they would release her husband. Later, the kidnappers drove towards Hebbal Ring Road and pushed Dr. Bindusara out of the car near Lumbini Garden in the early hours of Thursday. Before releasing him, they beat him up and robbed him of cash and valuables. On a complaint by Dr. Bindusara, the Hennur police have registered a case.
