MTR union, management talks fail

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The employees of MTR Foods Ltd. have appealed to the Government to get the management to lift the lockout of the factory, following the failure of third round of talks with the management on Thursday.

MTR Workers Union president G.R. Shivashankar told The Hindu that the employees had refused to give an undertaking of good conduct sought by the management. Following failed talks, he said, the employees would stage a dharna in front of the Chief Minister's house on Monday seeking the Government's intervention to end the lockout.

He said, "The lockout declared by the management is illegal. We will be meeting Labour Minister Iqbal Ansari to intervene in the matter." Further, he said, the priority was to get the lockout lifted and the wage dispute could be settled through conciliation later.

According to sources in MTR Foods, the management was demanding an undertaking of good conduct from employees individually. The sources said, "The management is willing to open the factory if the employees give the undertaking."
