Security, traffic arrangements in place for celebrations today

Over 20 companies of security forces to be deployed at Delhi's Red Fort

NEW DELHI: Elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made for the 1857 celebrations at the historic Red Fort here on Friday.

More than 20 companies of security forces have been sanctioned for deployment around the venue. About 200 trained commandos would be stationed on rooftops of nearby buildings and strategic places. The police have also got 50 closed-circuit television cameras installed to keep a close watch on the activities of visitors. As many as 25 Police Control Room vans would be stationed for any emergency. Anti-sabotage checks have been carried out in the area and hotels and guesthouses searched.

In view of a march being taken out by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan volunteers from Vijay Ghat to Red Fort grounds, Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail, Lothian Road from General Post Office to Chhatta Rail, S.P.M. Marg from H.C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk from Fountain to Red Fort Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road from Ring Road to Netaji Subhas Marg, and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhas Marg would remain closed to general traffic from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Commuters coming from East Delhi have been advised to use Pushta Road or New ISBT Bridge between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. No vehicular movement would be allowed on S. P. Mukherjee Marg from Old Delhi railway station towards the Old Yamuna Bridge via Chhatta Rail, Hanuman Setu, between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Kela Ghat Road would be "one way" from Ring Road from 5 a.m. to 8-30 a.m., and from GPO between 8-30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Commercial vehicles would not be allowed on Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Nizamuddin `T' point till 11 a.m., while inter-State buses will not ply between Maharana Pratap and Sarai Kale Khan terminals from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.
