New traffic regulations introduced

Plan to ease congestion on Mahatma Gandhi Road

KOCHI: Traffic regulations introduced by the city police to ease congestion on Mahatma Gandhi Road here came into force on Thursday.

Light motor vehicles coming from Pallimukku are diverted from Dwaraka junction before taking Warriam Road to reach D.H. Road. Vehicles coming from D.H. Road are not allowed to enter Dwaraka junction through Warriam Road.

Entry for vehicles coming from D.H. Road towards Mahatma Gandhi Road through Jose junction has been banned. These vehicles will have to take the Ramavarma Club junction-Club Road-Woodlands junction route to reach Mahatma Gandhi Road. No `U' turn will be allowed at Jose junction and Woodlands junction.

Vehicles coming from Pallimukku side will have to take the Dwaraka junction-Warriam road route or the Jose junction-D.H. Road-Club Road-Woodlands junction route for entering Chittoor Road and South Railway Station premises.

Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Club Road through Woodlands junction. Traffic through Club Road will be allowed only towards the northern side. Vehicles coming from Mullassery Canal Road will not be allowed to cross Mahatma Gandhi Road. These vehicles will have to take a left turn while entering Mahatma Gandhi Road.

The police have decided to remove vehicles that violate parking rules. Besides the fine for blocking traffic, owners of two-wheelers will have to pay Rs. 100 and light motor vehicles Rs. 250.

The police will not be responsible for any damage caused to vehicles while shifting them to police stations, a press release by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic West, says.
