Kochi: The Backward Area Development Committee has urged the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) and the Government to take steps for constructing bridges and roads connecting Moolampilli, Pizhala, Kadamakudi and Chathanadu. K.K. Ramakrishnan, secretary of the committee, said that instead of building the Moolampilli-Chathanadu road and bridge, GIDA had taken up work on the Kothadu-Chennur bridge, though it had been included in the ring-road scheme of the Greater Cochin Development Authority. He said a bridge and road already connected Kothadu and Ernakulam. That apart, the Vallarpadom-Kalamassery four-lane highway leading to the proposed international container transhipment terminal at Vallarpadom would pass through Kothadu. Besides, the work would entail a huge amount because the National Water Authority's building standards had to be followed for bridges over the national waterway. Construction of the Moolampilli-Chennur bridge would shorten the distance between North Paravur and Ernakulam by 13 km.
