Concern over accidents

KOCHI: The Greater Cochin Development Council has urged Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan to take steps to prevent accidents at Kariyad junction near the National Highway stretch between Aluva and Angamaly. In a press release, council representatives said traffic should be diverted through a paddy field at the northern side of the junction. — Staff Reporter

KLCA plea

Kochi: The Kerala Latin Catholic Association (KLCA) has urged the Government to initiate legal measures to tackle the impasse over admissions to self-financing colleges in the State. Any delay in introducing legal steps will affect the prospects of thousands of students. The Government should take steps to ensure social justice in the higher education sector, a press release by the association said.

Meet of inter-caste couples

Kochi: The Kerala Mishravivaha Vedi (forum of inter-caste couples and those married outside their religion) will hold a convention here on Sunday. At a press conference on Thursday, chairman of the vedi K.A. Ali Akbar said Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom would inaugurate the convention. He said inter-caste couples and those married outside their religions were often threatened and attacked. They were also ostracised and kept at bay in society. They did not get any benefits from the Government, he said. — Staff Reporter
