Plea to fill up vacant posts in Jail department

"Don't shift jail to new premises till facilities are set up"

Puducherry: The Puducherry State Jail Warders Association has called upon the administration to shift the Central prison from the town to new campus at Kalapet only when full facilities including residential quarters for the jail staff were available.

A resolution adopted at an emergency meeting of the Association here on Friday said there should be no hurry on the part of the administration to shift the prison to new campus as presently the construction of blocks including medical care centre were available.

N. Anandhan, president of the Association, said in a release that the posts of two Deputy Superintendents, four Assistant Superintendents, two Head Constables and four Constables were now vacant. Steps should be taken to fill the vacancies, the resolutions distributed to media persons said.

Any amendment to Recruitment Rules should be finalised only in consultation with the representatives of the association.
