Veterinary camps conducted in 140 villages

VELLORE: Free veterinary camps were conducted in 140 villages in 20 panchayat unions in Vellore district under the Animal Protection Scheme of the Department of Animal Husbandry during 2006-2007.

Artificial insemination

According to a release from the Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, artificial insemination was done to 2,733 animals.

A sum of Rs.4,200 was spent on each camp.

Besides artificial insemination, the activities in the camps included treatment of diseases, immunisation, and infertility treatment and pregnancy tests on cows.

The first free veterinary camp for 2007-08 was held in Velampattu in K.V. Kuppam panchayat union on April 18.

During April, camps were conducted in 20 villages at the rate of one village in each of the 20 panchayat unions. The camp benefited a total of 7,250 animals.

Artificial insemination was done for 400 cows. Camps would be held in May and June as well.
