It is a green movement of a different kind at Panieli Poru, near Perumbavoor. Conservation of nature without much ado is what the Vana Samrakshana Samiti is doing here. The samiti has a mission to prevent the surroundings from being vandalised by careless visitors. The rural landscape is thinly populated, but the treasures of nature are invaluable to them. The local people, who are members of the samiti, have realised the fact belatedly and are on constant vigil. Though the place is yet to find a place in the itinerary of tourists, domestic tourists can do much damage to the eco-sensitive area. There are tourists who abandon plastic bags and other materials in the streams that flow amidst rocks. If the practice is allowed, it takes very little time to spoil the beauty, points out Sasi, a member of the samiti. The samiti is keeping vigil at the main entry to the picturesque locality by operating a check post. Vehicles are screened to ensure that liquor is not taken to the spot. A watchtower is being constructed, which can be used to have a wide view of the place. The samiti is already providing the services of guides.
