Google to set up techno-complex in Hyderabad

Signs a memorandum of understanding with the State Government

HYDERABAD: After software majors like Microsoft and Infosys, Hyderabad will host a new techno-complex of Google Inc., the innovator of search technologies connecting millions of people seeking information.

Google, acclaimed as the world's best search engine with a market capitalisation of over $150 billion, will set up its state-of-the-art techno complex in Hyderabad. The company's present facility, on a leased premises, comprises over 1,000 employees and is the second biggest in the country.

The new facility, catering to engineering, online sales and service, information systems and other support functions, is expected to house 4,000 people once it becomes fully operational and the company proposes to raise the headcount further based on the business needs.

Google Inc. entered into a memorandum of understanding with the State Government for setting up the centre in Hyderabad during Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's visit to Santa Clara in the U.S. on Wednesday.

Google's online sales and operations director, Roy Gilbert, signed the MoU on behalf of the company while Information Technology Department Secretary, S. K. Joshi, represented the State Government. As part of the MoU, the Government will allot 20 acres at Kokapet in Rajendranagar mandal to the company, an official release said. Welcoming Google's decision to invest in the State, the Chief Minister said such investments would help in accelerating economic growth in addition to providing gainful employment.
