GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation has installed information kiosks at seven places in the city to provide all kinds of data to citizens related to property or water tax, or date of birth at the click of a computer button. Five of these modular kiosks designed like podiums have been installed at five e-Seva Centres in Guntur city and connected to the main database of the GMC from which people could retrieve any information. One kiosk has been installed at GMC Circle Office at Brundavan Gardens and another at NTR Indoor Stadium. The project has been executed at a cost of Rs.8 lakhs. While trial run and installation has been completed, formal inauguration awaits these kiosks, which would be in course of time connected with the website of Guntur Municipal Corporation, which has a wealth of information about the district and city in all aspects like geographic, political and tourist. A user-friendly interface has been designed that is not crowded like the website of the GMC and makes it easy for any citizen to operate it with the help of a mouse and keypad. Once GIS connection/information is obtained it would be linked to the database of the kiosk that provides photographs of all corporators, physical information about the works/infrastructure in that division. The GIS would be a value addition, said municipal commissioner D. Rama Rao detailing the information that would be available through the kiosks. Property tax, birth and death information from 1967, district tourist information, statistics of GMC, train/bus and flight timings, division information including corporation assets, VIPs' information (MPs, MLAs, Ministers, officers). A connection to the GMC website has been given from the user interface on the kiosks.
IP cameras
Meanwhile, the GMC has also installed 11 Internet Protocol-enabled cameras, which can beam the happenings in various sections of the GMC, its water reservoirs/filtration plant, and Circle Office to the municipal commissioner's chamber. Eight of them within the administrative office, one at Circle Office, one at High Level Reservoir, and one at Low Level Reservoir. All these had been installed at a cost of Rs.4 lakhs and would be officially inaugurated .
