HONOUR: Literary critic G.S. Amur being felicitated by poet Channaveer Kanavi and former MLA Chandrakant Bellad in Dharwad on Friday. Mohan Nagammanvar and Giraddi Govindraj are seen.
DHARWAD: Education and administration in mother tongue were the true signs of progress achieved, noted critic G.S. Amur has said. He was responding to the felicitation accorded to him by the Akhil Karnataka Kendra Kannada Kriya Samiti here on Friday. Although there was a sort of fascination and certain illusions about English language during the pre-Independence era, the attraction of the mother tongue was always there. However, it was regretting to note that the same old illusions were still in existence even in the post-Independence era, Dr. Amur said. Dr. Amur emphasised the need for having a "Kannada soul" in the days of globalisation and liberalisation. He remembered the contribution of Dharwad in his development as a writer and critic. Dr. Amur also underscored the need for taking up research works in the "Navodaya" and "Navya" literature to understand the "indigenous culture" depicted in Kannada literature. Earlier, poet Channaveer Kanavi felicitated Dr. Amur on behalf of the samiti for being conferred the Pampa award. Speaking on the literary works of Dr. Amur, Mr. Kanavi said that Dr. Amur gave an honest voice to the problems of Kannada through his writings. Giraddi Govindaraj spoke about the discipline in the working and literary style of Dr. Amur. Presiding over the function, the former MLA, Chandrakant Bellad, elaborated on the contribution of the writer to the world of Kannada criticism. General Secretary of the samiti Mohan Nagammanvar welcomed the gathering. Various writers participated in the programme. Shankar Kumbi proposed a vote of thanks.
