ZP officials directed to prepare action plan

DHARWAD: Dharwad Zilla Panchayat president Sudha Lingaraddi has directed the officials to chalk out an action plan for the works to be taken up under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojna (SGRY) in the district within a week.

Chairing the Review Meeting of the Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) here on Friday, she said during this financial year,Rs. 10.7 crore had been allocated for the district under the scheme.

While Rs. 2.14 crore had been allocated for the zilla panchayat works, Rs. 3.21 crore had been earmarked for the taluk panchayat works.

A sum of Rs. 5.35 crore had been set aside for the gram panchayat works, she said.

Zilla panchayat vice-president Nijanagouda Patil asked the officials to chalk out the action plan in consultation with the elected representatives.

Water problem

About the water problem in Kalasa and Hallikeri villages in the district, Ms. Lingaraddi asked the officials to take the requisite measures to ensure the availability of the required quantity of water to the villages.

Zilla panchayat Executive Engineer S.A. Patil brought to the notice of the meeting that drilling borewells in some of the villages in Hubli and Kundagol taluks had failed.

Consequently, a Rs. 15-crore project aimed at finding a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in these villages was being chalked out, he said.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat K.S. Ningappa told the meeting that Rs. 9.10 crore had been spent in the district on various works under the SGRY scheme during the previous year.

Joint Director of Agriculture Department Chandrashekhar explained the measures taken by the department for the distribution of quality seeds to farmers at subsidised rates.

The progress achieved by various departments, including the Public Works, Forest, Social Welfare, Adult Education, Watershed Development, Health, was reviewed. Presidents of the standing committees of the zilla panchayat and senior officials were present.
