`There is no naxal activity in Kodagu'

Madikeri: There are no indications of the presence of naxals in Kodagu district, Superintendent of Police Trilok Chandra told presspersons here on Friday.

He was replying to a question by presspersons at an interaction organised by the Kodagu Press Club here. Kodagu police were on the alert and they would nip naxal activities, if any, in the bud, Dr. Chandra said.

He said family counselling centres, now functioning in some parts of the district, would be strengthened to prevent recurrence of family disputes in the district.

Steps would be taken to control and prevent border crimes, especially the Kerala-Virajpet border, with the help of the Forest Department, Dr. Chandra said. Joint operations would be launched to curb crimes.

To another question on the charge of misbehaviour by an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police at the Ponnampet police station, he said inquiry was under way, and if he were guilty, action would be initiated against him.

The fake hakku patra case in Somwarpet was being probed by the Virajpet Deputy Superintendent of Police, he said in reply to another question.

Dr. Chandra said traffic police personnel would be deputed in important towns of the district with a view to regulating traffic.
