Service tax: govt. clarifies
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
The Union Finance Ministry, in consultation with the Ministry of Commerce, is working on the exemption or refund/rebate of service tax on certain export-related items.
A final decision is expected to be taken soon.
In an official statement here on Friday, the Finance Ministry pointed out that modalities for refund and rebate on service tax on certain services, which are not input services but are related to goods or services exported from India, are being worked out in consultation with the Commerce Ministry.
It was also working in consultation with the Commerce Ministry to neutralise the service tax on services received or rendered abroad.
However, it pointed out that the taxes paid on inputs or input services utilised for the manufacture of export goods or for providing export services are already being neutralised under rebate, refund and drawback schemes, the statement said.
