HASSAN: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions has decided to stage daylong dharna before the Deputy Commissioner's office here on May 15 demanding action against Hassan Town police sub-inspector Yogish who assaulted students at KSRTC Bus Stand on May 2 without any provocation. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, CITU president Mr. Sukumar and secretary Dharmesh said there were more than 250 students waiting in queue to get their bus passes while there was only one counter. The personnel at the issue counter were collecting Rs. 10 extra for every pass and another Rs. 10 as lamination charge. However, no lamination was done. When students complained about the excess collection, KSRTC Divisional Controller Ganganna Gowda arrived at the bus stand and pacified students and promised to conduct an enquiry against excess collection. When the students were speaking to Ganganna Gowda, Mr. Yogish reportedly arrived with the Rapid Action Force and caned students without any provocation. Mr. Dharmesh said students under the banner of SFI took out protest rally and presented memorandum to the Superintendent of Police who promised to conduct enquire and take action within two days. But even after a week no action had been takn. Mr. Dharmesh said their demands included withdrawal of false case registered against them and suspension of Mr. Yogish. Mr. Dharmesh said KSRTC must issue passes for 10 months in a year from July to April. But for technical courses like BE, Diploma and also for LLB, classes are conducted all 12 months. So students had to take another pass for two months. To avoid this, passes should be issued for all 12 months.
