ELURU: The Communist Party of India-Marxist is preparing ground for land grabbing in the district in association with several dalit, Backward Classes and farm workers' organisations, according to its district secretary Mantena Sitaram. He said the movement would be launched in all 46 mandal headquarters and eight municipal towns in the district after May 15. The party had given an ultimatum to the district administration to settle the land issue before May 15 by conducting enjoyment survey, handing over the surplus land under illegal enjoyment of landlords and distributing it among the landless poor. Mr. Sitaram said the official machinery had miserably failed to address the land problem in the district.
Survey conducted
He said a survey conducted by his party district committee had revealed that a large extent of 5.75 lakh acres out of the total 13.66 lakh acres under cultivation in the district was eligible for distribution among the landless poor. The party had released the survey details to the media on Friday.
