Punjab ties up with UNIDO to prepare industrial policy

LUDHIANA: To boost the industrial sector in Punjab, the State Government has tied up with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to prepare an industrial policy.

Survey

``We have asked UNIDO to carry out a survey of the State's industrial sector, the findings of which would help the Government in preparing a realistic industrial policy for the State,'' Punjab Industry and Commerce Minister Manoranjan Kalia said here on Friday.

UNIDO has already helped the Orissa and Gujarat governments in charting industrial policies, he added.

Lashing out at the previous Congress-led Government in the State, Mr. Kalia said Punjab received only 10 per cent of the total investments that were announced by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh during his term.

``We have found that Punjab has actually received just Rs. 10,000 crore of investments against Rs. 1,00,000 crore that was promised by the previous Government,'' Mr. Kalia said.

As for industrial infrastructure, the Government was spending Rs. 45 crore, he added.

``The Government would spend Rs. 45 crore on improving the road network, lighting and sewerage system in Punjab this year,'' he said. -
