Civic agencies asked to repair damaged roads of Delhi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Capital's civic agencies to complete repair work on all damaged or poorly maintained roads in the city within the next four months.

Status report

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Chief Justice M. K. Sharma and Justice R. S. Sodhi directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the Public Works Department to complete the repair work positively by September and file a status report within three weeks.

The Bench passed the order after amicus curiae Pushkar Sood brought to the notice of the Court that many roads in the city were in a bad shape causing difficulty to the public and the civic agencies were not taking any steps to repair them.

Accidents

Mr. Sood also raised before the Bench the issue of some bus drivers, whose licences had been cancelled by the Delhi Transport Authority for erratic driving leading to accidents, having obtained licences from other States.

Mechanism

The Court, considering the submission, asked the Delhi Government to formulate a centralised mechanism and store data about drivers whose licences have been cancelled by it. The Court also asked the Government to inform all the other States to access this data before issuing driving licences.
