Civic reception for Yatra Dal

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will accord a civic reception to members of "Yatra Dal" -- comprising ex-Servicemen -- in Town Hall here on Saturday. The Yatra had started from Moirang in Manipur on April 14.

The Yatra members covered the entire distance from Manipur to Delhi on foot via Guwahati, Bairakpur, Balia, Lucknow, Jhansi and Meerut. The march was organised by the All-India Poorv Sainik Sewa Parishad to mark the 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence.

Tributes to freedom fighter Asaf Ali

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday paid floral tributes to freedom fighter Asaf Ali on his 118th birth anniversary. Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra garlanded his statue on Asaf Ali Road near Delhi Gate. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Mehra described Asaf Ali as a fearless and frank social worker and embodiment of religious and communal harmony.

Traders' delegation calls on Sheila

NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) met Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit here on Friday to discuss the sealing issue.

Led by CAIT secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal, the delegation urged the Chief Minister to find a permanent solution to their problems. They also handed over a memorandum to her listing their demands.

Convention at Gandhi Peace Foundation

NEW DELHI: To celebrate the centenary of the Satyagraha movement, a convention was organised by Gandhian workers, civil society activists, doctors, lawyers and retired civil and defence personnel at Gandhi Peace Foundation here over the weekend.

A Gandhian Satyagraha Brigade was launched to fight the growing menace of corruption and ensure good governance and social justice. A number of citizens from different walks of life have enrolled themselves for the brigade.

DPS book fair

NEW DELHI: A six-day book fair was organised by Delhi Public School in association with Scholastic India in suburban Indirapuram earlier this week.

A host of activities -- crosswords, finger puppets, quiz and aquarium making -- were organised during the fair. Principal Meeta Rai said books opened up the world of knowledge and experience, adding, "One who has passion for reading has the greatest gift."
