Jawan laid to rest

BIDDING ADIEU: The body of deceased jawan Ajesh being carried in a funeral procession at Kottiyur in Kannur on Friday.

KANNUR: The army jawan Munduchirakkal Ajesh, 29, who died in an encounter with extremists at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, was laid to rest with full military honours in a cemetery at Ambayathode near Kottiyur on Friday. The body was brought to Ambayathode from Karipur airport last night and kept at the 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) camp for the public to pay homage. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, MLAs K. Sudhakaran and P. Jayarajan paid floral tributes to the jawan. Additional District Magistrate K.V. Gangadharan, who is officiating as the District Collector, accompanied the body to Ambayathode. The body was kept at a public venue for people to pay homage before being taken to the jawan's house.
