Proposal prepared for Rs.71.29-crore project

PATHANAMTHITTA: District Collector Ashok Kumar Singh has said the district administration has prepared a development project, estimated at Rs.71.29 crore, for Upper Kuttanad.

Addressing a meeting of local body authorities in the district here on Thursday, the Collector said the proposed development project comprised 145 schemes and it would be submitted to the Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Commission soon.

The project proposes 59 schemes for Niranom panchayat, 41 for Peringara, 17 for Nedumpram, 10 for Kadapra, five for Kaviyur, 10 for Pandalam and three for Thiruvalla municipality. The project envisages extension of paddy cultivation to nearly 950 hectares of land, which has been lying uncultivated for the past several years, and vegetable cultivation in another 300 hectares.
